The History of the Olde Jaol Restaurant & Tavern

Built in 1865, the Wayne County Sheriffs Department was widely identified as the finest law facility of its kind. For 100 years it housed Ohio's felons, criminals, and even the very last sentenced death by hanging.

Though in 1977 the facility was relocated across the street and all that remained of the old jail house was the stories of those who has served time there. Though there are stories that claim some of the inmates never left the old jail house and still to this day walk the old prison cells where our guests dine...

In 1980 the building was recognized as a historical landmark, then in 1995 it was purchased and brought back to its former glory. Thus the Olde Jaol Steakhouse and Tavern was given life. Known for its excellent service, unique atmosphere, and unbeatable menu we strive for excellence. We have partnered with Certified Angus Beef to bring you an excellent product in all of our steak cuts. Only 8% of beef is high quality enough to be certified as Certified Angus.

Come and enjoy a burger in the tavern, perhaps drinks on the patio with coworkers?

A romantic steak dinner downstairs in the cell rooms, maybe a party in one of our several banquet rooms...

Go to Jail... You'll love it!
